Pizza Barboni (Plaza Festival): Proper thickness & plenty of topping

If Pizza Barboni's newly opened Plaza Festival branch is any indication, then the franchise has successfully built a sizeable customer base from its first parlour in Kemang. Pizza Barboni will possibly get most of its customers from delivery orders (which I think is probably the case in Kemang as well), but it does have a nice shop tucked in Plaza Festival, Kuningan.

While it's very low profile, the restaurant is quite cozy and worth a visit. The pizza itself is a very good reason to.

The place hosts only about 30 seats, with indoor or outdoor seating. But it comes with a bit of personality; wooden logs placed near the entrance, a few confident quotes here and there, Barboni pizza boxes placed throughout the premise.

Barboni is ready for delivery & take-away orders, with plenty of paper boxes prepared.

On to the pizza themselves. Barboni offers mostly classic toppings on its pizzas, but you can add more from the wide range of ingredients they have.

I ordered Capricciosa (topping: beef bacon, mushroom, capsicum pepper), with added olive. Small size.

Generally, Barboni's pizza is thicker than most pizza I've tasted (except for Pizza Hut, which is very thick). The crust is harder too.

Thickness is important I think, as you don't want your pizza too thin to the point that it resembles crunchy chips, but you don't want it too thick that it'll just be like a regular bread. Barboni's pizza's thickness suits me right. It feels substantial, and there's a lot to bite. It's more proper than Pizza E Birra for example, where the pizza is relatively thin and I almost feel as though I'm eating crackers.

There's plenty of topping in this. I honestly feel that most restaurants that serve pizza just do it half-heartedly; they're too thin, and the toppings are barely there. Barboni is quite generous with its toppings. It's not as busy/colorful as Pizza Hut's Super Supreme, for comparison, but there are plenty of flavors to go with the dough.

The following order was Funghi (topping: mushroom only), with extra mozzarella cheese. Small size.

Notice the thickness of the cheese. The additional mozzarella only cost IDR 8k, which is very reasonable. I would've probably tripled the additional cheese had my girlfriend not complained.

Again the pizza doesn't disappoint; it was true to its name 'funghi' as it came with a lot of mushrooms. I mused the idea of having more than one type of mushrooms on this, but this is good enough.

For me adding at least one extra mozzarella cheese was the right decision. The default amount wasn't cheesy enough. But it boils down to personal preferences.

Pizza Barboni is well-priced; for two small-sized pizza (that was more than enough for two persons) the bill was about IDR 110k.

Pizza is somewhat a common dish served in most decent restaurants nowadays. But I always find them lacking in thickness, cheesiness, or the freedom to mix and match toppings.

Pizza Barboni is quite a step-up from those. The pizza has the right thickness, and you can mix and match toppings to your liking. Initially the amount of cheese was too few for my liking, but nothing some extra mozzarella can't remedy.

So go ahead order a delivery if you're in the area. Or visit the restaurant even; it's cozy and welcoming. A nice addition to the food hub that is Plaza Festival.
