Typology (Wijaya): Cafe, Restaurant, Workspace

Typology takes its concept as a cafe a little further by claiming that it's a 'workspace'. It welcomes its customers to not just hang out and chat, but also to stay a while and open their laptops. It's a neat strategy I guess, and when I was here there were indeed people who seem to be working/studying intently.

The interior was dusty (in a good, warehouse-y kind of way), casual, a little colorful.

There were people working, dating, hanging out. This is a calm, charming place to enjoy a good weekend.

The 'work' identity is embraced through a number of quotes all over the cafe. It even has a central projector for special events (I picture this can work as a meeting spot, though I'm certain 'nonton bareng'/ football games will be a more popular occurrence). The wi-fi is fast too. Almost a complete package for people that like to work in cafes.

Now on to food & drink.

Iced Irish Caffe Latte. IDR 37k.

I really don't know much about coffee, but I thought Irish Coffee/Cream is supposed to have a bit of chocolate, vanilla, and caramel flavor about it? The caramel flavor is very strong with this coffee, it almost overtakes every other flavor. I couldn't find any hint of the chocolate. Maybe I misunderstood.

The coffee flavor itself is quite nice. I'd order another one with less caramel syrup.

Appetizer; recommended by the waitress...

Kankin Bolognaise Fries. French fries, bolognaise, melted cheese. IDR 29k

The cheese was still sizzling when the waitress brought it to my table. This is surprisingly quite nice. The bolognaise was tasty & sweet, the melted cheese blends nicely with it.
The fries was very wet & soggy. It doesn't taste old, just strangely wet. I'd have enjoyed this much more if the fries was crispy.

Still, the bolognaise & cheese topping was nice and it came in a generous amount; there was still some of it even as I finished the fries.

Main course. Typlogy's claimed favorite...

Hobo Oxtan Rice. Oxtongue, rice, teriyaki sauce, a bit of sweet & sour sauce. IDR 65k.

The oxtongue was bouncy, juicy, and tasted very good. It's very easy to chew. It came in 3 decently thick slices of oxtongues (a bit too few I think), different from the thin-sliced Japanese gyu-tans that seem to be trending right now. This is a pleasantly good one.

The teriyaki sauce may be a bit overpowering though. And I don't get the point of the red sweet & sour sauce poured all over the plate. I don't think it makes the dish any nicer. Also, the rice came cold & dry.

But the oxtongues are what matter most, and they're good. I believe them if they say this is their favorite dish.

For a 3-course meal, my bill came in IDR 151,080. It's rather pricey I think, especially the drinks (the coffee & juices are around IDR 30-37k).

For a cafe, Typology actually offers a wide variety of food in its menu. And they're quite good. I can imagine someone coming here not just to drink, hang-out, or work, but to have serious meal.

The place is worth one or two visits, maybe for those who happen to be in the area. But I honestly don't see too many reasons to keep me coming back.
